30 Rock packs a punch
Had become a fan of Tina Fey the moment I set my eyes on her during the 81st annual academy awards (or the oscars to the illiterate). She was on stage to present the award for best script with Steve Martin. here is a brief dialog:
Fey: It has been said that to write is to live forever.
Martin: The man who said that is dead.
Fey: Yet, we all know the importance of writing, because every great movie begins with a great screenplay.
Martin: Or, a very good idea for the poster. But usually, with a screenplay.
Fey: And every writer starts with a blank page.
Martin: And every blank page was once a tree.
Fey: And every tree was once a tiny seed.
Martin: And every tiny seed on Earth was placed here by the alien king Rondelay, to foster our titrates and fuel our positive transfers!
Well, I was talking to 'the' Juvekar (more on 'the' Juvekar later) about this and he enlightened me about this great little TV series "30 rock" starring Tina Fey. She is also the executive producer and the creator of the show.
It is about the life of an average american woman, in her late 30s, unmaried, working for a Television company as the head writer for a comedy show which makes fun of America's presidents. The story begins when she has to deal with a very challenging new boss and an extremely fussy self-proclaimed movie-star and she has to balance it all with her on again off again boy-friend.
What I liked about 30 Rock or 30 Rockefeller Plaza is the marked absence of the laughter track, inspite of which, the show amuses me beyound imagination. It kind of goes in the lines of "scrubs". The show has taken everything in the right spirit, be it the presidential elections or the attacks. The show has it all. It blatantly asked voters to vote for Obama, there is a very subtle racial slur too, but it is all in good taste.
Watching 30 Rock is like watching a plethora of BBT, friends, scrubs, himym (yeah, even 30 Rock has flashbacks) and many many more sitcoms.
