bigcitydreams

There ain’t no reason things are this way,
Its how they always been and they intend to stay,
I can't explain, why we live this way,
we do it everyday...
-Ain't No Reason by Brett Dennen

I was watching House the other day - episode "Family" to be precise. This is a story of around the time I had just shifted from listening LP songs to Nirvana and Iron Maiden. Towards the end of the episode, was a very sad melancholic song with beautiful and meaningful lyrics. It was a magical tune with lots of comparisons to the real world. Some background investigation by a Private Eye and Wikipedia led me to know that it was the song whose opening lines also open this post.

Brett Dennen is a singer/songwriter from California. Pretty small time artist, Dennen also sings for quite a few non-profit organisations such as the Mosaic Project. He has released only three albums till date. So you get the point - This guy is a much smaller artist than the bands I had been listening to.

Quite a few days passed after this incident and I came across another such small time singer: nevershoutnever! (yes, you read it right, no spaces and an exclamation ) Christofer Drew Ingle. This song was bigcitydreams (again without spaces). This one too has awesome lyrics about a guy leaving town with dreams of living in a big city. The music scheme is fast and catchy with sweet lyrics.

We saw something similar at sacre cour in Paris. 3 to 4 such amateur bands giving street performances as a weekend pass time to earn some spare money with CDs for sale!

The point I'm trying to bring home here is that there are quite a few people doing their stuff in their own very small ways. LISTEN TO THESE SONGS and try to bring happiness and joy to the world whenever possible (blah blah). And to close with lines from the same song which opened:

"You can spend your whole life workin’ for something
Just to have it taken away..."

One of the best lines ever in a song, from Aint no reason.

"Prophets on the sidewalk begging for Change"

Recommended to anyone who hasn't heard it yet.

There are many songs which are so memorable. Chris de Burgh, Simon and Garfunkel, Pink Floyd are amazing lyricists. But there are many artists that go unnoticed too.
