Mood Indigo 2010

2010, my last mood indigo as a student, I was expecting nothing less than what MI had offered last year, and, I was alone for yet another MI. Very few people attended MI this year; might have been for the lack of a weekend and also due to less fire power in the proshows. I am single, yet again, which is kind of sad and inferiority complicating because throughout MI, I saw these infi hot chicks with infinitely <****fill appropriate swear word here ****> guys.

Day 1 was pretty mundane with many events, none of which interested most of the insti seniors. I was expecting a grand concert by Asha Bhosleji in the evening, but that was a let down too. Amit Kumar is not as good a singer as his dad, and it is time that he accepted that. He tries his best to hit it off, but fails miserably. There are a million other Kishore Kumar impersonators out there who are much better than this guy. Also, the songs that Ashaji sang were very old and lacked the "crowd spirit." All songs started with full crowd support, but the moment the song went into the Antara leaving the Mukhada, it went downhill.

Day 2 was spent running around the insti primarily due to Sachdeva having roped me in to play treasure hunt. He told me an excellent example for the causality-correlation paradox (?) The concert that day was Katatonia and Indus Creed. IC was nice, Katatonia became noise after some time.

Day 3 had nothing that could interest me get out of my room. Even the night wasn't that appealing to my taste; met a few old friends currently at VNIT Nagpur and caught up a bit. Sumo wrestling was awesome with Manas and Edul being thrown about the ring by Sumos. Day 4 involved me taking a reluctant Khemani to roam around the campus. Mantra finals were awesome, IITB winning both Mantra and the music trophies.

What followed immediately after Mantra was nothing short of disaster. It was Amit Trivedi's performance. His troupe consisted of two chicks with EXTREMELY irritating voices. They were promoting a new film that shall not be named for an hour and sang encores of the same songs. Making guest appearances were Rani Mukherjee (another irritating voice) and Vidya Balan. What stole the show was Rani and Vidya's reluctant / fake surprise smooch, which the media wasted no time in fussing over, as seen in the link. Also, it appeared that there was some bad blood between one of these gorgeous ladies and a cameraman. They left after an hour of agony, and then started the real Amit Trivedi concert with superb hits from DevD and Amir.

All in all, not that good an MI. Could have been way better. Very little could be done for the atmo over the desi theme, as compared to the plethora of trappings that was bestowed upon the crowd with last year's pirates. Even the website was extremely random. Hoping for better MIs in the future.
